The Haunting of Aveline Jones by Phil Hickes

What a courageously creepy debut! The Haunting of Aveline Jones gave me literal shivers of anticipation as I absorbed every spine-tingling cliffhanger and mysterious creak.

Chillingly atmospheric and hauntingly captivating, this is one exceptionally eerie adventure set in a dreary and desolate little Cornish coastal town where its weather is as menacing as its legends. I LOVE everything about myths and legends and Hickes’s fictitious folktale ‘The Lady in the Waves’ was utterly spectacular. Hickes writes with a flair and fervour that is worthy of recognition. He hypnotises every sight, sound and smell to construct a narrative that is brilliantly fleshed out and completely immersive.

A heart-racing, palm-sweating, deliciously terrifying 5 star Halloween read for sure. Although you may be sleeping with the lights on after! Already eagerly awaiting the sequel, The Bewitching of Aveline Jones.
